February Assignments and Vacation School

Hello Everyone!

We have no major due dates in February, however I do want to be sure students keep up with their reading.

Feb 7/8 - Read 22.2 and 22.3, prepare for a quiz.
Feb 9/10 - Read 23.1, prepare for a quiz.
Feb 13/14 - Read 23.2, prepare for a quiz.
Feb 15/16 - Read 23.3, prepare for a quiz.

I will be contacting parents soon about vacation school. It will be Feb 21st, from 9 to 1. It is open to anyone, but strongly encouraged (basically mandatory unless its impractical for parents) for students who are behind at this point. Students are responsible for their own transportation and lunch. Its a great opportunity for students to get caught up, or even get ahead.

Long Range Syllabus.

I have entered all major tasks for the remainder of the year into Educate. Gradually, I will probably start replacing this blog with Educate, but in the meantime, here are the dates:

March 9 - Energy Vocab Test (level 2) Due.
March 15 Energy Test (Level 3/4) Due.
April 12 Energy Project Due. This will be a research paper done in collaboration with English 9.
May 4 Engineering Career Presentation - Last available day. These 3-5 minute presentations will be scheduled one at a time through the next few months.
May 18 Astronomy Basics (Level 2) Due.
May 27 Astronomy Test (Level 3/4) Due.
June 1 Astronomy Project Due.

That's all Folks!

Homework for Jan 9-12

Project due date has been changed for RED day students only - moved to Jan 24th due to the snow day. However, only projects completed by Friday Jan 20th will be included in progress reports.

Due date for white day students is still Jan 20.

Regular homework for Jan 18/19 is read 20.1 and prepare for a quiz.

Thursday, January 5, 2012

January 5/6

Homework is to read 19.2 and prepare for a quiz, but the most crucial thing is to pass your Level 2 Force and Motion test if you did not complete it in class.

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

January 3/4

Well, it seems that this blog is blocked at school. I'm going to see what we can do about that. In the meantime, homework is to read 19.1 and prepare for a quiz. We're jumping ahead to Harmonic Motion and Waves as an introduction to energy. We'll be returning to earlier chapters later.

Major Assignments for January

We have three deadlines students need to meet to be "On Track" in January. I would encourage students who have extra time over vacation to get started right away (it will probably easier while it is fresher in your mind also). Although you need to take your "official" quiz in class, you may practice outside of class to be sure you are prepared.

January 6th - Students need to pass the Force and Motion level 2 Measurement topic test
(HERE). 80% is the target.

January 13th - Students need to pass the Force and Motion level 3/4 Measurement topic test
(HERE). 70% is a "3", 90% is a "4".

January 2oth - Student's demonstrations of the Force and Motion measurement topics are due. The demonstration can be almost anything - an experiment, a poster, a presentation, an engineering design, a research paper, etc. I will work with students in choosing their demonstrations. All demonstrations use the same rubric (HERE), so whatever you choose to do, you must be sure to hit the key concepts.
